A story about men, from a male perspective, with extraordinarily  traditional male themes and ending.

The first part and end of the third were interesting. Second was unnecessary. Too long overall, and the big "mystery" turns out to be not so shocking after all. Disappointing.

This was basically an epic. Suspenseful and captivating. Gruesome and sad. Perfect fall read.

A fascinating insight into life in the south of the USA before/during/after WW2. The book is well written and strangely disturbing.

The ending was incredibly unpredictable - not easy for any author!

I don’t know if I actually like the story that is told, but it really suffers from poor storytelling. The way he chose to spin this yarn confuses me.  There is so much in here that likely didn’t need to be and it grew somewhat tedious in certain sections. I’m convinced that this book could be 150 pages shorter and tell the story better.
