4.5* Honestly. I can't even describe all I know is, it was one hell of a ride. And amazing!!!

I haven't decided since it's now almost a week later I'm ready to explain some of my feelings towards this novel. Number one is it's was a very unique read, 5/5 stars for that. The format of it was beautiful, told in the order of a dictionary the Main characters writes in. It sounded realistic, tho I've never went through the events or had the life style of this character it passed as realistic enough for me. *I'm pretty sure this is an own voices novel?I may be wrong*4.5/5 stars for that! And then the characters, I loved the characters they all felt real, not buffered not clean but idk perfect. They were real, human and just made the experience of the story so much better!! 5/5 for that.
The only reason, I'm not giving this a solid 5 stars and s 4.5 is because it just didn't have the 100% 5 star read for me. But it was very very close and I can tell I'm going to hold this book close to and in my heart for a very long time! Beautiful, stunning , a very interesting and fun read!!

Good book about mental health and showing the dangers some children face because of neglect. It had many dark themes that paired with lots of sarcasm and dark humor from the main character. I especially liked that in the end, Macey finally understood what being a best friend is like. It's taking care of someone even when they don't know they need it. Macey did that when she sliced Alma's face. She sacrificed her already dying friendship with Alma to save her.

Rating this 5 now because I know I'll be thinking about this book for many moons

The ending to this made me feel like I just watched...like...Donnie Darko or something....

Absolutely amazing
Would recommend to anyone and everyone
100000/5

I curious to hear if others have read this one? Each chapter title mirrors a dictionary entry and relates to the chapter content which is a really interesting text feature. Written from the point of view Macy, a "disturbed" girl, who explains her behavior through her writing. It is a raw story that uses very strong language including some explicit sexual language. Macy writes about her life in school and her favorite teacher, she describes her family life, the incarceration of her father, the death of her baby sister, the loss of her brother to CFS, and her two best friends Alma and George who also have less than idea family situations. It explores extreme poverty, neglect, abuse, drug abuse, sexual assault, mental illness, and violence. The characters are definitely diverse, in both race and personality but their connections are strong and the support they provide one another is life changing. I really want to talk about this one, as there is a depth to this story that really needs discussing.

Wholly unlike anything I've read before, this novel is formatted as the personal dictionary of Macy Cashmere, a tougher-than-nails teenage girl whose narration could be difficult for me to follow simply because it tells the story of an experience so foreign to my own. Absolutely gut-wrenching and unique.

This book blew me away. Every teacher should read it.
