This destroyed me in the best of ways, I don't know if I can write a coherent review.
Wish a certain character hadn't been redeemed so early/easily though. I don't care that they're family, what this person did was FAR more unforgivable. (Then again I hold epic grudges.)

In this YA contemporary, coming of age story we follow Moon Fuentez as she is finding herself and her way out of her toxic home. This book is all about Moon's journey, navigating her trauma, learning her worth, and being open to the idea of others being capable of loving and caring for her.

In the beginning, the Santiago and Moon relationship and 'nemesis' aspect in particualr seemed a bit forced and sometimes it was annoying to read.
Parts of this book read straight like a wattpad fanfiction- so if thats what you're into go for it- but still managed to weave in plots with deeper meanings than what they let on.
About the main relationship, I have a few thoughts.
At the climax of the novel when Santiago ran off so quickly after listening to Star, I was a bit confused and annoyed. Obviously this doesn't last for long because he apoloizes and blah blah blah. Their relationship was fine, I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either.
All in all I enjoyed reading this book, the exposition was slightly slow but the middle and end definitely made up for it. I related a lot to some of the things Moon was going through and also with her love of flowers, so it was enjoyable to see those in print for others to enjoy. I was glad to see a happy ending.

There's a lot of great diversity in this book as well. Moon and Santiago have the best chemistry, and the side characters were just as fleshed out as the main ones. Definitely worthy of all the praise it has been getting!

There is also quite a bit of slut shaming in this book.simonereadsbooks's review
