It was ok and I found it funny the pieces of the book that the author was trying to hint that serafina was part cat. Like wanting to knock the chess pieces onto the floor

The premise is great, conceptually. However, I picked this up hoping for a strong female protagonist and was woefully disappointed.

A cute middle-grade thriller fantasy novel that I needed to read after a couple of more serious reads. It was everything I wanted with a super cliche happy ending. I really do enjoy Disney published books

Don't you hate it when a book has it all, great characters, fascinating plot, actual world building, and most important of all an awesome cover, something that's hard to come by these days.

Okay so.. when the book first started out, it was kind of boring. It was like it started out in the middle of like what would be chapter four or five. As the book progressed, it did a pretty good job of explaining Serafina's backstory, which, might I add, is very interesting. I do like the fact that we see Sera and her mother reunited at the end of the book. Overall, I'd rate it a solid 4.5/5 stars. I probably won't read it again, but did like it.
