Re-entering my Sarah J. Maas era with A Court of Thorns and Roses. It took me SO long to start this series because I just KNEW I was going LOVE it and Maas did not disappoint. I’m completely obsessed with the characters and their dynamics. I wasn’t sure how I felt about this being a bit of a beauty and the beast retelling, but I actually think that framework helped focus the reader on the differences, since we had a good understanding of where the plot was going (at least in part). This allowed the reader to take in the aspects of Prythian, and comfortably place themselves into this new world of the fae. I really loved the pacing of this book and thought the development felt natural. I definitely got some other classic literature references/inspirations outside of beauty and the beast as well—which I was really excited about. Overall, if you’re a fan of Fantasy, Romance, and mild spice, this book is definitely for you. I know I cannot WAIT to see where the rest of the series takes us.

Heavy on the torture and cruelty for me.  A lot of imagery.

The beginning was a bit boring for me but I LOVED the Ending it was literally perfection! Like the things I felt while reading this book😭 I love Tamlin so much and Feyre is also so strong like ahhhh!!! It wasn't really spicy for me though🫠

“There is a better world out there, waiting for you to find it.”

I stayed up until 5 in the morning to finish this book because I can’t sleep not knowing what happens to Feyre during that last quarter of the story. If you were in my position, you wouldn’t want to sleep as well until you finish the book. ACOTAR is one of the popular fantasy series in the book community right now and I picked it up so it could widen my book selection for the year. I haven’t been that inclined to picking up fantasy books because it’s hard to think about world building and all of that but with this book though, it was quite easy. I think that’s what pushed me into reading it more and more. It definitely lived up the hype for me because I was really engrossed with their world.

To be honest, I went in this series blind and knowing nothing about the world, the characters, the plot, the story, whatsoever, so it was a lot for me to take in. It was slow in the beginning since there was a lot of world building and character introduction but once the halfway point was through, it was plot twist after plot twist. It was a whirlwind for me especially because I was just in it to read and not think - meaning, I wasn’t looking for clues nor was assuming how the book would end. The romance between Feyre and Tamlin was cute in a fantasy way (tbh, for some reason, I was hoping for spice but was like only 1 🌶️ spice level).

By 3/4 in, the story really builds up and it was very adventurous - one that I was expecting for a fantasy book. But for some reason, got a little confused when Rhysand showed up (I know people love him in social media so he was not what I was expecting so I was a little confused). More confused towards the ending as it seems that there would be romance between them. So…wait, is this a love triangle or something? Anyways, I’m leaning towards learning more of Rhys because so far, I can see why people would love him although first impression matters and he failed that one.

There’s a little bit of The Beauty and the Beast story in this book which will be later explained halfway through the story and I love that so much especially since it’s my favorite Disney.

Very enjoyable, but my enjoyment really peaked about halfway through the book. The beginning was a little slow and it was hard to get invested.

I finally got round to reading this after all the hype and I’m really glad I did! It’s my first step into adult fantasy and I found it surprisingly enjoyable. It took a while to get to grips with all the different language and terms, and it definitely took me longer to read as I had to pay so much attention to every single bit. Despite this, I did really love it. My only few criticisms would be around some of the character development and focus. I find Feyre a little irritating sometimes and I wish she would stop describing how it would be to paint every single thing! I also wanted more from Tamlin (sorry, not sorry). However, I’ve already started #2 in the series and I’m so excited to see how it goes.
