Buddy read with @drjoannehill

It's one of those books that's so hyped up and I've seen absolutely everywhere - I just neeeeeded to know what all the fuss was about!! On the whole, I enjoyed the book (definitely helped to be buddy reading it!).

There were a few negatives: a lot of 'convenient moments' throughout (did our FMC achieve anything much on her own?!) where people appeared at just the right moment every time to help, and a fair amount of repetition of certain words, phrases and info. I also got a bit confused by all the different types of fae, especially the ones that appeared once and not really again.

As far as the villain goes, she didn't seem very well 'fleshed out;' I couldn't really grasp what she was trying to achieve or why and she came across as more petty and jealous than powerful and calculated to me.

However, the story was fun & the characters were generally pretty interesting. A fair amount of twists and turns that kept me waiting to see what would happen and a setting/world I could imagine quite easily (which is always good). It was fun and I had fun reading it!

Will I be continuing the series - probably!

** Worth noting that I went straight into this book from A Day of Fallen Night, which had very intricate world and character building - which is possibly why this felt a little clumsy at times as I unfortunately did draw a few comparisons.

1. Themes of Friendship and Loyalty: Beyond romantic relationships, the book emphasizes the importance of friendship and loyalty, particularly in the bonds Feyre forms with other characters.

2. Diverse Representation: The series features a range of characters from different backgrounds, including varying levels of power, which adds depth to the social dynamics within the Fae world.

3. Romantic Tension: The romance is well-developed, filled with tension and chemistry that keeps readers invested in the characters’ relationships.

4. Continuation of the Series: The first book sets up an intriguing foundation for the rest of the series, with plenty of plot threads and character arcs to explore further in the sequels.

5. Fan Community: The book has cultivated a passionate fanbase, leading to discussions, fan art, and theories that enhance the overall reading experience.

Overall, "A Court of Thorns and Roses" is a captivating blend of fantasy, romance, and personal growth, making it a popular choice for fans of the genre. Whether you're new to fantasy or a seasoned reader, it's a book that offers an engaging and emotional journey.

I was genuinely surprised by this book. While I don’t much care for Feyre’s self-loathing inner monologues, they got pretty tiring to read through, I really appreciate how naturally Maas writes dialogue between characters.

Tamlin and Feyre, and Lucien and Feyre, believably grow closer over the duration of the book. The second half of the book is by far better written and more intriguing. I appreciate the fairytale-retelling themes coming though, but the brutality of some scenes throughout the first half of the book was really jarring.

Overall, I think I’ll just have to read the next book and see where the story takes me

I like this book better than the first Throne of Glass book. The writing and the world-building is better in this one. It does bother me that Ireland was used for the inspiration of Hybern though. Overall, a flawed but good read.
