Here's the thing- I hated this book. But I can't really point a finger at why exactly so I didn't give it a lower rating. The first half was extremely boring and the second half was extremely problematic. I think some of my dislike comes from osmosis ing through pop knowledge the next steps in Feyres romance. But regardless, had this not been a book I was reading for a friend, I would have DNFed it.

This book has been on my TBR for years and I was excited to finally read it. Bookstagram told me it would be good, but I feel lied to. It read like a mashup of Beauty and the Beast and Howl’s Moving Castle—two stories I love—but I didn’t love this. I didn’t like any of the characters and the story was just… blah. It was slow, I didn’t really care about what happened to any of the characters, and I predicted the plot twist close to the end.

All that being said, friends and family have assured me the series gets better as you go along, so I’ll give the second book a try. The jump from 400 pages to 600 makes me nervous it will be a giant waste of time, but hopefully I will like Mist and Fury better.

ACOTAR gets 2.5/5 for me, but I did finish and I am willing to give the second book a chance.

I enjoyed this, it was fun to finally read what everyone else has been reading. A few reasons for my low ish rating are: I found Feyre a bit annoying,
I didn’t quite understand how she and Tamlin fell in love  I guess and it didn’t feel super well conveyed to me. Like for example when they first said ily to each other I felt a bit shocked.
My main complaint of this book is that it didn’t feel fast paced enough for 416 pages. I know I’m new to fantasy, but I hoped it would have been more of a page turner based on how much people love the series (although I have heard many say the first book isn’t great, but that the rest of the series is, so I’ll definitely read the second one). It was overall a really well written and interesting story, just not in a page-turner type of way. I think if I connected with/ liked the characters more I would have read it a lot more quickly. ALSO while I think I’ll like the next book, I am completely overwhelmed by this series. The second book being 626 pages and then only increasing feels insane to me😭
