This book is all about world building and preparing for the second book, it seems. I was hoping for more of what the last 1/4th of the books story showed. It didn’t meet the expectations of what people were telling me about this book. I did like the characters and the descriptions of the world are very detailed. I personally felt it was very cringy for the first half and then gave me what I was expecting for the second.

I decided to finally read this book and it makes for a fun summer read, particularly the graphic audio. I had not realized how deeply it is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I enjoyed that the story did become its own work especially towards the end. I enjoyed the characters and felt that SJM wrote a convincing representation of a 19 year old who had a lot on her shoulders. This was a fun read and I do have some criticisms.
The author jumps around with the timeline a lot. Often it felt like some descriptions were given once and then never mentioned again which made it especially hard to go back and revisit details on audio. I was able to figure out the riddle immediately but I still felt satisfaction when my guess was correct.

One of the best books I’ve ever read. Laughed and cried a lot. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

I’m done lying to myself I was going to rate this higher because I know it’s popular but I was not a big fan, it was overall all right. One good thing about it is it’s such an easy read I was able to read it really quickly, which made me feel good about myself lol. It’s pretty predictable and was basically everything I was expecting. I don’t really care for the main character Feyre or her love interest Tamlin, it was all very cliche for me and kind of read like fanfiction. The reading level is basically a YA book if it weren’t for the explicit sexual content and violence (which made for an interesting contrast—dark/adult subject matter but at like an 8th grade reading level) There also were some moments that were damn near close to rapey/assaulty from the main love interests which was uhhh not great. Note that I say love interests plural because I guarantee a love triangle romance with bad boy Rhysand in book 2–again, a lot of this book is very predictable. I predicted that from the moment he was introduced and described as “the most beautiful man I’d ever seen”

That being said, since the book was such an easy read, there were a few side characters I liked, namely Nesta and Lucian (I’m really hoping we see Nesta again), and I’ve heard the rest of this series is WAY better, I’m going to stick through and read the second book!

Also, would be better if it was at least a little bit gay. There are all these faeries and magic, it’s just not adding up LMAO

The book is really slow paced at the beginning until about 3/4 the way through and then it picks up and gets really fast paced. The book keeps you guessing and is extremely well developed.
