Beginning was intriguing. Middle was a fight to keep reading. Meh but I want to read the next book to see what happens.

This was the book that got me back into reading! I’d been meaning to read it for years but never got around to it until my cousin kept raving about the series and I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about. So glad I did! I was initially worried I’d struggle to read it like I’d done with books I enjoyed in the past. But to my surprise I finished it in just under a month and then immediately went and bought the second one in the series to start reading it! If you like slow burn romances and fantasy books (even those of you that aren’t into high fantasy) I highly recommend A Court of Thorns and Roses!

This was a re-read for me so that I can read the next in the series. I did enjoy it but I feel like the pacing is really off - the final third of the book is really where it gets going.

The only thing keeping me from giving this a 5 star review is the fact the first 60% is a mirror, almost scene for scene, of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Unique enough to still be enjoyable, but predictable and I'm glad I knew Sarah's work with "Throne of Glass". I kept thinking, "hang in there, she knows what she's doing" and it took until halfway through the book for it to really show. I hope the next book continues the trend!
