I had been pushing off starting this series as I am always worried when reading “trendy” books, but I can now say that this book definitely deserves all hype. This author gives you just enough without giving you too much and creates a story where you never know what’s next. I was on the edge of my seat when reading this book and am excited to read the next one! At the end when all of the pieces fall into place and everything you read starts clicking it makes the book more enjoyable.

I am also all for a book when the main theme is love and you don’t realize it till the end.

Overall, so glad I finally decided to pick up the book!

Book really drags in the beginning to give too much world exposition before we even have the chance to care, surrounds main character by a family of near irredeemable characters that makes reader question why it spends so much time on them in the beginning, and repeats formulaic sequence of main character outright being stupid and putting self into harms way by doing the opposite of advice given, having to be rescued time and time again in drawn out false climaxes. That being said, the book redeems itself in the 3rd quarter, building on characters, creative action sequences, romance, and straight up gore and tragedy into resolution to make us feel something for an initially dull and annoyingly dumb main character.

book spends so much time focusing and building on a main love interest (Tamlin) that it basically character assassinates them at the end by having him do literally nothing and say nothing to help save the main character-who is literally going through a prolonged gauntlet of death and torture to free him out of love- from being brutally beaten and mentally broken and eventually horrifically and slowly killed in front of him. Feels like a massive waste of his character and readers time, and is frustrating to the reader.

Not bad, but not amazing as BookTok lead me to believe. I had low expectations just because I am wary of BookTok, but I think that allowed me to enjoy it more than I think I would thinking this book was going to be life changing for me. Feyre is somewhat tolerable and Tamlin, I don't get him he's just plain awful. I mean mister Rhysand is better, but not by a lot. Lucien is my MVP for this book.

Honestly, I get the hype of these books. This one was really addictive, however, it is a slow start because there's just so much being thrown out there, so much world-building, and it's just setting up so much. Granted this was like my second attempt at reading this series and I went down the audiobook route and not just an audiobook it was a dramatized version, and it was just so good. Definitely get the dramatized version if there's ever an option. Anyway, if I had to describe this book it's definitely Beauty and the Beast inspired meets Hunger Games. I'm not sure Hunger Games is the best route but I'm thinking the game portion where it's life and death and competing in trials because that's what Feyre is eventually forced to go through. I really loved this one and it was so hard to put down.
