I had no desire to read this, but my best friend accidentally acquired two copies and gave me her extra one (100% planned and forced upon me). So, I promised her I would read it. (Are you reading this review right now, bestie? You probably forgot you even have an account. 😝)

I have to begrudgingly admit that I enjoyed this. The world building was interesting. The writing was better than I expected, although I never want to see the words purred or growled again. The nature descriptions were lovely. 

But I'm not sure I can root for a romance between an immoral and a 19 year old because that gives me the ick.

I had a hard time liking any of the characters, but maybe they'll grow on me.
Feyre? Frustrated me to no end, and she was so dumb. 😭
Tamlin? I don't trust him. He gives me "nice guy but secretly not" vibes. Can't explain it, it's just a feeling.
Lucien? The most likeable character, but the bar was low. And he's friends with Tamlin, so I can't trust him.
Rhysand: Red flags all around. Straight to jail.

Sarah Janet I see what you're trying to do with Rhysand and I'm saying... no.

I'll continue with the series mostly because I had so much fun sending voice memos back and forth to my bestie as I was reading the book and plan to do it with the next one, too. But the last quarter of the book did reel me in, and I want to know what happens next despite my reservations.

So far, I’m not as into this series as I was the Throne of Glass series. Still a captivating enough read to get me out of my slump! Enjoyed the strength and drive of the main character Feyre. Enough plot twists that it didn’t feel predictable. Less smut than expected, maybe 1 or 2 sex scenes?
