This book got me on a chokehold plot twist after plot twist. It was a bit slow for me at first but the second half??? Gut wrenching. Absolutely cannot wait to read the next one.

This was my first foray into the fantasy/romantasy genre. The last fantasy series I read was Harry Potter when I was 11 years old, so needless to say, it's been a while. One of the things I wanted to challenge myself on this year was to explore new genres and so after seeing the ACOTAR series countless times on my For You Page, I decided to give them a try.

The first half of the book was a touch slow for my liking and I was slightly worried that I had made a terrible mistake but something clicked in the second half and the book completely opened up. I found myself becoming more and more invested in Feyre and Tamlin's budding relationship and was very tense and nervous when we were taken to the Under the Mountain scenes. The book is spicy, the world feels expansive and lush, and for my first taste of romantasy, I ended the book very pleased and excited to start the next one in the series.

If you're like me, it's almost like you kind of have to get your "fantasy feet" wet to really get your bearing in the books and to fully get into them. It's a new world for me (literally) and although it took some time, I ended up really enjoying the read. Everyone keeps telling me that the next one is even better and a wilder ride so we shall see!

I first read this book in May 2015, around the time it first came out. I then read the rest of the trilogy as those were releasing. Never read the novella and beyond.

I remember this installment being the worst (to me), and that still holds true in 2025. I just do not like Feyre in this story. She irritates the everloving piss out of me.

Compared to the final half, the first half was slow, but immediately got my attention and got me out of my years long book slump. I had a fantastic time with this and can’t wait to continue the series.

I considered giving this 5 stars, but since I have high hopes that I’ll enjoy other books in the series even more than this one, I’m giving it 4.5.
