Don't listen to BookTok, this first book in the series does not have spice. It's closest you can get to fade to black without actually doing so.

If you decide to read this book, the pay off doesn't happen until chapter 54 of book 2, A Court of Mist and Fury. You have to commit to reading both.

I enjoyed it for the story, action, and characters.

much better than ToG, but like low-key concerned with how much abuse the main love interests put on Feyre. Like how can this be okay???

It was a bit slow to start, but it was good once you get into it. I like the various types of characters, between fairies and humans, and the author does a good job establishing a world filled with complicated problems that I can only assume will be continued in the next book and after. I’m excited for the rest of the series.
