Alright, I’ll give it to the ACOTAR girlies and admit that this was entertaining. I mainly liked the supporting characters over the protagonist, but sometimes their voices blended together. Hopefully throughout the series as each of them develop they’ll become more fleshed out as individuals. The beginning was ROUGH in terms of writing style and dialogue (so much so I genuinely thought she was making fun of the YA fantasy genre), but the further I got the more the dialogue and pacing evened out. Liked it better than Fourth Wing though.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐.75
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Tropes/Themes: Enemies to Lovers, Forced Proximity, Kidnapping (Kinda), Romance, Fantasy, Fae, Trials

This book will forever hold a special place in my heart as the story that reignited my love for reading, as it has for many others. Is it a literary masterpiece? Absolutely not. But it is the perfect amount of love, action and intrigue to hook in new or returning readers and leave them searching for things that make them feel those feelings and more again and again.

Overall this book is wonderful for what it is. It's popular for a reason, the characters are hot, the world is interesting, the tension is tensioning, and its an easy read. Looking back at it now after 2 years of reading it doesn't hold up enough to remain a 5 ⭐ rating for me but I still love and will forever recommend it as a starter book for people who want to start reading more.

Main character kinda whiny. Not strong. None of the characters are very deep or lovable. Don’t think I’ll continue with the series

The first of the ACOTAR books, this installment focuses on the background development of Feyre and her relationship with the High Lord Tamlin. After making a grave mistake while working to protect and provide for her cold-shouldered family, Feyre is faced with a choice to fight a losing battle or transition into the faerie world. The Spring Court seems to treat her well, although seeming to put her in an overprotective bubble. After a turn of events that leads Feyre to put her very human skills up against some of the strongest fae-made tests, she will soon learn though that mind games in the world of fae are very real, a much bigger war is being wagered, and not everyone is exactly who they seem.
