Finally read it! Not my usual genre, but thank you FoMO, I ended up enjoying this more than I expected.  It was a good fae-based fantasy with swoon-worthy romance and just enough action to keep things interesting.

Energy: Enduring. Defiant. Determined.

🐕 Howls: Even though I’m not a big romance reader it was surprisingly not as cringey as I expected with just enough edge to keep it from being too sappy.

🐩 Tail Wags: The audiobook. How we’re eased into the fae world without dumping too much lore all at once. The action scenes and high stakes moments held my attention. I didn’t feel overwhelmed by the characters and worldbuilding. The puzzle/competition elements were engaging. How our MCs independence balances out the lovey-dovey moments.

Scene: 📖 Prythian Mortal Lands and Fae Courts
Perspective: Our main character is the sole supporter of her family after her father was injured and lost his investments. Her sisters are spoiled and unappreciative. One day, when she kills a fae masquerading as a wolf, she is brought to their world as retribution.
Timeline: Linear.
🔥 Fuel: What will the High Fae be like? How will Feyre’s future play out living among them? Are the stereotypes true? Will she catch feelings? How will she navigate romance and vengeance within the fae world?
📖 Cred: Fantastical

Mood Reading Match-Up:
Faded paint. Hearth. Hyacinth. Exquisite gardens. Smooth stone. Burning metal. Tattooed arm. Talons. Membranous wings.
  • Tagging along, peering over shoulders, overhearing character thoughts (first person)
  • Breezy, direct writing style
  • Resilient, likeable characters
  • Life and death riddles and torture trials
  • Fight for freedom
  • Enemies to lovers forbidden love
  • Love triangles, polyandry elements
  • Falling for her abductor
  • ‘Stupid human’ prejudices
  • Caresses, desires, lust and teasing steamy moments
  • Blinded by revenge villain
  • Possessive and protective alpha hero
  • Shapeshifting animal-form high fae
  • Diminished powers

Content Heads-Up: Animal death (hunting; wildlife). Blood, injury, pain. Confinement. Death. Loss of parent (as child). Murder. Physical attack (permanent injury). Poverty, starvation. Sexual content (on page; consenting; descriptive but not overly graphic). Torture.

As low stakes romantasy fun, I actually really enjoyed it. Just knowing there were going to be cringy parts, a total pick-me FMC, and not a lot of character development set me up for success. And I had a great time.

Romatasy, Enemies to Lovers, 2 🔥

“A portal into the mind of a creature so unlike me, and yet … and yet I looked at its work and understood, and felt, and cared.“

Despite not being my usual choice of book, this has reignited my passion for reading. I couldn’t wait to pick it up again to find out more about the world, the dynamics and the outcomes of decisions. Although I did find some of the choices and writing questionable at points, the world building and character growth and development made it a worthwhile read! I can see why this book has so much hype around it and have immediately picked up the next!

This book was incredible! There’s a lot of things in the beginning I was so confused and maybe even a little cringed out by but as soon as you learned the reasonings behind everything it was just so lovely. I am in lOVE with all of the characters esp MC, she has so much development throughout the book, aswell as the relationships built it was truly amazing. I loved how it was an easy read but still had so much detail. Last thing! I LOVED how the spicy scenes were kept short and sweet, enough to get me a little giddy but not to much to where i was like “okayy when will this end” (i’m not really into a lot of spice) I will 100% be continuing the story i’m ecstatic to see where Rhys and MC relationship goes and how her and tam end up aswell!

This is the entryway into this highly acclaimed series, but it’s probably the hardest/slowest of the books to read. I had too high of expectations and also didn’t realize it was technically YA. After adjusting my expectations, I really enjoyed the last half of the book and look forward to completing the series.
