Honestly, I am an enjoyer of fantasy and romance and smut. If you want to read a fantasy romance that’s good but doesn’t take itself too seriously this book is a great option, it has been so long since I felt so engulfed in a book that it played out like a movie in my head and I could barely remember the characters names because it was playing out like a movie. The world building isn’t the best, so if you really like world building, this one might not be it for you. There are definitely some cheesy moments and frustrating moments but since finishing this book and starting the next one, I do think I really enjoy this series. It makes me feel like I did when I was a teenager reading books like divergent or the maze Runner, just with some more spice. If you prefer audiobook The Reading Hag on YouTube does an amazing narration of it.

Honestly, I get the hype of these books. This one was really addictive, however, it is a slow start because there's just so much being thrown out there, so much world-building, and it's just setting up so much. Granted this was like my second attempt at reading this series and I went down the audiobook route and not just an audiobook it was a dramatized version, and it was just so good. Definitely get the dramatized version if there's ever an option. Anyway, if I had to describe this book it's definitely Beauty and the Beast inspired meets Hunger Games. I'm not sure Hunger Games is the best route but I'm thinking the game portion where it's life and death and competing in trials because that's what Feyre is eventually forced to go through. I really loved this one and it was so hard to put down.

This book is the epitome of a slow burn. The characters, the plot, the conflict, all of it. The first half is an absolute mess and I have never wanted to DNF a book so much. However I have had so many friends rave about this series that I had to power through and honestly I’m glad I did. I’m looking forward to the next book but I truly can not rate this book higher due to the first half and also ** spoiler** the first task that Feyre has to endure.

This was good! But the lack of diversity was STARK compared to what I’ve been reading the last few years.

I wanted to DNF it at least five times because it had me cringing so hard.  I’m surprised I made it through. There’s no real plot-twists, you can basically expect most of what will happen next. I can’t really say why there’s such a hype about the book, I found it rather dull.
