The book is really slow paced at the beginning until about 3/4 the way through and then it picks up and gets really fast paced. The book keeps you guessing and is extremely well developed.

tldr: ACOTAR is really not what it first seems. Give it a try at least.

After countless and annoying recommendation from the fandom I gave in, and read it. I will be objective here, because I've read so many opposing opinions about this book and I would like to help others to whether read it or not.
I chose this book because I wanted to ease my mind from a series of exams and the stress of moving, and just having an exciting reading but I did not expected this. I really try to set my feeling aside and just tell you all that this books is just beautiful. Not in a usual way, to be honest, but I felt this story. I liked how I engaged in this book after struggling to read anything! Mind that I don't have a particular taste in books, I like Russian realism, historical fiction, fantasy, Jane Austen, everything besides horror or thrillers. This book won't save the world but maybe will save you from anxiety in which I suffer a lot lately. It just swallowed me, I really wanted to know how the story unfolds, what are the world's rules, who are the characters etc. It is not overly complicated, which is good if you don't like fantasy worlds with hard to follow lore. I liked how intimate it was at some point, it showed how enjoyable life can be, how strong feelings can be and how some feelings give us strenghts.
This book can be pretty boring if it is not your first fairy fantasy but if you barely read books like this I really recommend to start here. The intimate scenes can be really spicy but not graphic! but an adult mind can handle it, I guess. Try to read this book with open mind and heart and try not to hate it on the first page already. I used to hate ACOTAR because of the fandom as it came across my feed hundred times, booktok is obsessed with it, but I let myself to decide whether is it a good story or not. And yes. This is a good story.

For such a hyped up book, I was disappointed by ACOTAR. A pretty standard Beauty and the Beast retelling in the first half, Feyre is taken to the court of the fae High Lord of spring, Tamlin, after she kills one of his men who wandered into the human realm. Rather than being cursed to be a beast, Tamlin can shapeshift at will while he and hs court are cursed to have masks on their faces due to some unnamed blight. About halfway through the book, everything felt very resolved, until Feyre discovers the source of the blight, and finds herself on a quest to free Tamlin and the rest of the fairy world from a wrathful queen with a vendetta against humans. This felt like two books stitched together due to the weird pacing, and I wasn't super entralled by either one. Feyre has no reason to stay with Tamlin; he makes it clear to her from the start she is free to leave his land at her own will, and neither Tamlin or Feyre are particularly endearing characters. They both felt like stock figures being moved around by the plot to fit the BATB mold. Feyre read very much like a wanna be Katniss, scraping by to survive, rather than a woman who is desireable for her beauty or mind, but she's locked into the tropes required and they require she fall in love. The second half feels much more like the Hunger Games, with Feyre fighting
literally in an arena for entertainment
to save Tamlin and a new love interest there to stir drama. This was a slog to get through and I truly do not understand the hype.

TLDR: A stock characters with a variety of stock plots leads to an odd Frakenstein of a story and is too generic to get invested in.

First of all, I'm stunned that this isn't considered YA. To market it as anything else is false advertising, in my opinion. Reader beware.

Second of all, the MC is really freaking dumb.

This isn't a genre I read a lot in, but this year I also read Serpent & Dove... which is marketed as YA and has waaaaay better worldbuilding and character-building. I would definitively say that this isn't worth the hype, but I'm glad if it's getting people reading I suppose?
