I had fun with this book, I really enjoyed reading it! But honestly i feel like the writing is mostly a bit mediocre and the characters kind of surface level. Most of the book feels like the author wasnt really sure what she wanted to do with it, but the latter fourth-to-half feels like she really nailed it down there, and it became very compelling. It could just be my story preferences, but i really do think the latter parts of the book are the best written. Again, i really enjoyed reading this, & I do recommend it.

So... It was definitely entertaining but... It was like a combo of beauty and the beast meets Harry Potter meets Hercules or something like that where someone has to go through trials to prove something... I can see why ppl either just like this one or hate it. It wasn't boring though!

I enjoyed the voice of Fayre's narration throughout, but found that the first half of the book was very slow. Things sped up somewhat in the second half, and especially in the final quarter.

First few chapters are a slog while the main character is first miserable with a hateful family and horrible poverty, then gets rescued and lives a life of luxury and wealth and is miserable because she wants to starve again with the family that hates her? Not fully on board with her motivations there but it picks up once she takes an interest in her new surroundings
