The fantasy was absolutely lovely and very well-written! I adore the world building of the fantasy realm in this faerie-themed series, it kept me hooked alongside the tension and action. I wasn't a fan, however, of the romance in this book, and had me doubting if I wanted to continue the series. It felt bland and didn't really do much for me. The high-staked action at the end of the book kept me reading, and I don't regret continuing the series! Just the romance that keeps the rating lower for me.

A slog to get through, kind of beauty and the beast/Stockholm’s syndrome love story but boring besides the pretty descriptions of the nice locations. Also I didn’t find any of the characters likeable

I don’t usually read fantasy but I really liked this one and I am going to read the next book in the series

This book is quite badly written. I had to drag my feet to get through it and I didn’t enjoy it. Towards the end it got a bit more interesting. Character development was shocking and they were unlovable. Main character kept doing stupid things that irked me. Probably won’t read the second book of the series.

i don't read much fantasy at all, so i would say i have nothing to compare this novel to, but i honestly had a blast reading this. will keep reading this series just for fun

(tw: mentions of sexual assault) i'm glad i first read it as an adult, because i feel like a lot of its themes wouldn't mean as much to me if i had been younger. while i can acknowledge that fiction is separate from reality, i find the author's depictions of sexual assault to be less than ideal.
how she depicts feyre's experiences with tamlin and rhysand excuse their behaviors if not outright say that feyre wanted and/or deserved the sa.
for this reason, i would strongly advise younger readers to steer clear, or at least go in knowing that maas' depictions are severely detached from actual real lived experiences. none of the romantic/sexual relationships depicted in this book are healthy and/or normal.

yes i read mid in between peak lit it's called a guilty pleasure

Hard for me to get into at first. Easy, quick read. My favorite pieces were learning about the customs and pragmatics of the fae world. I did enjoy some of the fantasy descriptions of the world such as the pool of star light. My favorite character is Rhys because he has depth. Sometimes, it felt a little shallow but overall glad I read it.

feyre was truly just so annoying to me. the writing style and the world building overshadow that so i do think it was a good book but god i hope she gets better throughout the series
