3.65 AVERAGE

Audio:

This is not a romance book. It’s a well written story about a SNL-like writer and a famous singer…yes they are attracted to each other. But trust me, it’s not a cheesy rom-com in any way. It’s so witty and funny, well it is by Curtis Sittenfeld. One of my favorite reads this year.

Listened on audio. I felt it was pretty average. It was slow at first with lots of time spent setting the scene. Some parts were definitely interesting but overall the humor fell short for me and the story was written a bit awkwardly. I felt the interactions between the love interests was also forced / unnatural at times. It was like every time I began to enjoy it, something boring kr awkward happened to make me feel “meh” about it again. Not bad, but wouldn’t recommend it!

3.5 stars, but will round down for the numerous pages of emails the reader had to get through.

I gave this four stars right after reading it because the writing was fantastic and the story was enjoyable enough. But I’m moving up to five starts because I keep thinking about this book and there was more in it to unpack than I realized.

Ok damn. Not only did I enjoy this story I also love the inside look at how SNL writers live.

I would call this a speculative historical fiction from recent history.

The main character got a little annoying towards the end and I felt like I couldn't picture her. Other than that, I adored this book!
