Audio.
This had a decent start and an okay ending , but boy was this slow going.
The narrator’s voice was very monotone and this certainly didn’t help the atmosphere.

Great start to a female character series with a good twist and a few characters you want to smack! (grin)

I was drawn into this book by its excellent blurb. The thought of not knowing someone was in your home, and then finding a murder had occurred, is scary, even more so when you find out that it is because the family are deaf. You start to wonder who could do such a brutal thing in the first place, and whether they took advantage of the fact the family couldn’t hear them, or what it something else entirely.

This book turned out to be a brilliant read, especially for a first book. It fills in a niche that I hadn’t even noticed was missing, in the book world. How exactly are crimes so,fed, when communication is impossible, without assistance? It as brilliant to see the fine details and have a glimpse into the lives of another community.

Overall, the book really had great detail and several twists that you may not see coming. All the while, it stayed on track and provided a very interesting crime novel, with some excitement as well. It was a wonderful read and definitely an author I will be keeping my eye on, in the future. I recommend giving this book a go.

First of all thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me access to this title.

The beginning of this book had a lot of promise. A tragic murder of a toddler in a house of a dead family necessitates the need for the police to bring in a BSL interpreter. I was hooked from the beginning and quickly became invested in what happened to the little girl. However it started to become repetitive by the halfway mark that it lost its quick pacing and became harder for me to come back to read.

For the most part there was a lot of good character development and the characters did feel realistic. My complaint was that while the main character was likable in the beginning she became annoying after the halfway mark with how much she was meddling. I think if you’re going to have a character involve themself so much in a police investigation, they should have a bigger role than just an interpreter.

That being said the story was unique and it did have some good suspense. I loved that the author wrote about the deaf community and I think there’s also something especially sinister about a murder committed in a house of a deaf family.

While this book may not have been for me, I could see others enjoying it more.

A murder mystery set in a Deaf community in England. The protagonist was fairly well-developed, as we secondary characters. i liked the information given on interpreting from BSL to English and vice versa. A quick read for folks who enjoy thrillers and mysteries.

I really liked the way the author told the story, and introduced the Deaf characters and use of sign language! I did guess half way through about who it was and there didn't seem to be much happening! However it was still a good thriller overall!
