Thanks to the author, publisher and Edelwiess for an ARC of this in exchange of an honest review.

It takes a special voice in non-fiction to hook me. I can't describe what that is but Gustafson has it. I was hooked from the beginning and had a very strong emotional reaction l while reading. From the funny moments to the heartbreaking ones, I was hooked and along for the ride the whole time. Gustafson is an excellent storyteller and I enjoyed reading this so much.

I would recommend this to any cat or people lover and will probably be buying it as a gift for several different people I know.

I picked this book up for a cute story and ended up having an existential crisis.

If you are looking for a cute heartwarming story about cats this is not quite it. There are parts that are extremely heartwarming but it dives into real lives, suffering, how systems fail pople,  sexism, and other heavy topics. The book makes great commentary and uses the authors experience with cats to effectively discuss these topics. I do wish the author would have struck to more of a chronological way of telling her story rather than jumping throughout her life.

Overall I believe this is a good book but it might have been the wrong time for me to read it. Give it a try but dont expect a soft, gooey, easy read.
