 This was brilliant and I could not put it down. Lady Christian and Violet felt so real and I really enjoyed the writing and the story. The book was inspired by the murder trial of James Forrester and the author does not claim the details of events and characters are historically accurate. I felt the portrayal of injustice, women's mistreatment, working conditions and poverty in that time as well as the small joys and hopes of the characters. Maybe it was a tad long, especially in the middle, but overall a great read. And there is a little treat at the end of the audiobook!
