This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I am a big fan of Giovanna's work. I also love YA dystopian books. So when I heard about this book I knew I had to add it to my ever-growing TBR. My BF bought me a hardback copy which sadly sat on my shelf for a lot of months. I then noticed there was an audiobook version, in my library so I borrowed it via Borrowbox.

Firstly the narrators of this book are fantastic. They are engaging and get the tone just perfect. I found them very easy to listen to.

Now onto the story. Well, the blurb really is interesting. One girl born in 50 years. ONE in FIFTY years. If that ever happened I don't know how the human race would actually respond but the response in this book is a pretty good one.

Eve has been separated for her protection. She lives in The Dome. The Dome has everything that Eve needs but she is only allowed to interact with women. The mothers have volunteered themselves to look after Eve and prepare her for the day that she will meet the potentials and eventually reproduce.

Eve has always had best friend Holly with her. Holly is actually a VR program which three different boys run. Bram is one of these three boys. Eve has always opened up to Bram's Holly the most so he tens to get the 'missions' which are the most interesting rather than attending the duller aspects like the classes.

The story flicks between Eve and Bram's POV. Tom and Giovanna do an excellent job of making sure the story flows. I saw Giovanna at an event last summer and I remember Giovanna complaining that Tom finished his chapters so quickly but you cannot tell. The switch between the POVs is seamless.

Most of the story is in 'The Dome' but we did get to see some glimpses of the outside world. I presume we are going to see more of the world in the next book. The world building that we did see was good and I enjoyed the few glimpses of places that were recognisable in London.

I really enjoyed the story and I got quite invested in the story. There were some really heartbreaking moments and I may have had to wipe away a few tears. I am very excited to return to the story in a few months when book 2 is out.

I thought the premise behind this novel was clever and quite different to anything I've read before. However, I felt it could have been so much more than it was. For that reason, this gets 3 stars.

That being said, I'll read the sequels as I am a little intrigued to know how it all works out.

I read this summary and was so intrigued, it's been awhile since I read a dystopian novel but this idea totally sucked me in right away. The story did not disappoint either. I love a book where every page feels like develops the story and the characters. And I love a good forbidden love. This had both. I found that the storyline was really well balanced, the book felt like it focused mostly on the gravity of the situation, the drive towards liberation and the slow revelation of captivity, to Eve, her friends and the reader, while also sprinkling in the added factor of love. I enjoyed that.

I have to say, I felt the end could have been written better. I totally understand the open door for the next book, but I worry that, like many stories before this one, the second book might be a stretch on a great initial story. I am hesitant to dive into the next one for that reason, skeptical if it will be worth the read.

Loved this one though!
