I really liked the representation in this book, and the lesson/message at the end. But I had a tough time connecting with the characters. I'm the polar opposite of a gym bro, and a lot of it takes place in a gym, so maybe that's why?

IDK they both seemed to be pretty flat characters too, like they were interested in working out and doing their jobs and not much else. As an introvert (which, they are both supposed to be homebody types) I can say that we still have plenty of interests that we don't have to leave the house for!

Okay after reading a plus-size led book last month I decided to give it another try because to be honest it wasn't that good. I usually don't like them because the problem is always fat person doesn't think they're good enough to be with the other person troupe which ick
this book had that too but it actually made sense for the circumstances so it's fine I guess
.
There is a good amount of spice
bathtub scene was by far the best one
and I loved the characters surrounding the leads (Grandma Flo, Hilary the dog, Tara, Mel, etc.). Would recommend to people who want a plus size/muscley duo without being annoying about it.

Crying score: I got a little misty...

This starts off as a fun gym-rivals to lovers story, but the FMC is so annoying - by the end of this book I wanted to throw my kindle at a wall.

Firstly, on two separate occasions she ditches her family & friends without any warning or goodbye which is a mild annoyance from a reading point of view, but eugh. It’s also so painfully millennial in places (and I am one, but I don’t need my romcoms to have an endless stream of current cultural references).

She then proceeds to dictate to the MMC how long it should take him to get over a very short, long-distance relationship that he explicitly states wasn’t a big deal, and remains hung up on it the whole time. Then she gets mad at him because he keeps a secret that his grandad asked him to (for context their grandparents are getting married). WORST OF ALL when she posts a photo of the two of them on Insta to finally hard launch their relationship, she gets lots of nasty comments which somehow result in her breaking up with him??? I mean honestly 🙄 and the cherry on top is that the MMC is a completely flat character - he’s attractive, helpful, kind, has a six pack and that’s essentially all we know. Not even a smidgen of anything interesting going on there.

I thought this book was very cute but kinda predictable? I did enjoy it and am looking forward to the next book by this author!
