This was an incredible follow up to Beartown.

It did take me a little longer to connect and I felt like the second half of the book was spectacular and really captured the lightning in a bottle feel that Backman had with book one.

It is tough to read at times, but my god does Backman have a way of capturing complexities and feeding them to us in a way that feels entirely relatable.

Really didn't think this one would make me cry, but I should've known better.

overall, i enjoyed this. i love Backman's writing and the Beartown characters are very 3 dimensional and loveable. i did not enjoy how we were introduced to a bunch of new characters and how the plot became so political. despite this, Backman never disappoints me with his strong characters that make me feel so deeply for them.

A good follow up to Beartown, but nothing could ever beat the first book. I still loved this book and being able to follow the same characters throughout their lives. The end with Peter made me chuckle because what makes him think he is qualified?

Major trigger warning for SA and self harm, for both this book and the previous novel. This book has a surprising amount of compassion without ignoring the harmful impact of characters when they do harmful things. Did not think I would read not one, but two books largely centered around hockey, but I sure did!
