3.68 AVERAGE

Nothing is happening, except of course teenage hormones 🙄. No sci-fi, no adventure, no fun or interesting goings on. BORING

Actual rating is 2.5/5 stars

Really enjoyed the first half (gave it 3.5/5 stars) but then did not enjoy the last 100+ pages...

Distracted

I have really enjoyed Amie Kaufman's collaborative series in the past so I was super excited to try her next series Unearthed and I was not disappointed.

Set sometime in the future where earth is dying, this dual point of view book has the Mia a scavenger looking to collect enough relics and technology from Gaia to save her sister and Jules who wants to save and study all the archaeological finds.

Reminiscent of Indian Jones this is a great introduction to the archaeological thriller that of course takes place on another planet. The romance is predictable but still enjoyable as both Mia and Jules start out lying to each other and then work to figure out who is actually telling the truth.

Then there is the mystery that the aliens left them to find - the undying. And the twist at the end is certainly well worth the read. I am looking forward to the next installment in this series.

I did like that the characters had to use their smarts and logic rather than a whole lot of brute strength but I grew bored halfway in and confused at all of the different 'players'.

This was an okay book. I was getting really annoyed with the characters and the pacing was kind of annoying as well. Not bad but not great either.

“The worthy will rise into the stars . . .”

Having enjoyed Kaufman and Spooner writing partnership in the past with the Starboard trilogy, I was really looking forward to this Young Adult / Scifi tale.

Once more, the authors give us an engaging adventure featuring two teenagers at polar opposites of the social spectrum: Amelia, a white American girl scavenging to scrap enough money to buy her sister’s freedom, and Jules, a black English boy determined to validate his scientist dad and ‘save the world’. The narration, set once more in space or rather another planet, alternates between the two, giving us a taste of each protagonist’s voice and ‘character’, and features a very ‘tomb raider-y’ account. The interactions and banter between these two worked very well as did the mystery of the alien civilisation. As much as I enjoyed this book, I must admit it did feel a little ‘simpler’ than the authors’ previous trilogy but I’ll definitely be wanting to read the next instalment when it becomes available :O)
