I am always here for a street-smart independent girl with a secret emotional vulnerability reluctantly helping an overly articulate sheltered book-smart boy on a mission to save the world. The puzzle solving was fun, the world building was cool, the romance was gleeful, the mystery was intriguing and the writing was wonderfully engaging.

BUT THEN THE PLOT TWIST AND CLIFFHANGER ENDING OMG.

I was just here for a good time and I feel so attacked right now. MY FEELINGS!

Seriously though, loved this - good fun read, even with the cliffhanger that is definitely going to keep me awake at night rolling my brain over the implications. Because seriously, omg. OMG!

Yep, still had a fun time reading this book, and still super stoked to read the sequel in January 2019!

Original Rating: 5 stars

So when I heard about this book coming out and saw it being pitched as "Indiana Jones, but in space" I was excited but very skeptical...

BUT MY OH MY WAS THIS BOOK A VERY PLEASANT SURPRISE! I have not enjoyed a book this much in a long time, and I also have not stayed up til 2 in the morning to finish reading a book since I was in high school! I don't know why this book hasn't been talked about more, because I honestly thought it was so good. While there was a bit of instalove (which isn't always my favorite), I still really liked both of our main characters and liked how they interacted with each other in the story. But I think my favorite part was how the story unfolds and captures your attention from the very first page and is a wild ride to the very end!

I am lowkey so upset that I have to wait til January 2019 for it's sequel because the cliffhanger had me feeling all sorts of ways and I need to know what will happen next!!!

ESE FINAL!!!!!

This book is like Marmite, you either enjoy it or don't. Unfortunately, I didn't stick to this world.

Unearthed

I’ve been pretty hyped for this since it was announced, and I’m glad to finally finish it! I adored Jules and Mia’s dynamic and loved the twists and turns. And that ending! So good.

I can't wait to pick up the second book because this book was amazing 😁😁

I wish I could give it a 4.5, I loved it but I need to reread it I think. I liked Jules and Mia a lot but I think my hesitations are that I needed some visuals or something, I found myself getting confused at where they were or how much time had passed. I can't wait to read the sequel!

Oops, I read this all in one sitting?

Not quite as strong as the Starbound trilogy or Illuminae Files, but still clearly fun as hell. If a bit cringe-y on some of the romance/insta-love in places. Like, almost more than I could believably handle. But clearly a good fun ride once it got rolling.

And that ending. What the actual ... I've been wandering around swearing loudly at no one about that ending. Total cliffhanger alert! But what a game-changer. I can't wait to see where the sequel takes it.

This was... fine??

It was actually much, much better than I thought it was going to be. All the reviews I'd read had described it as Tomb Raider/Indiana Jones in space, and I was geared for crappy adventure series writing, a shoehorned romance and a half baked sci fi story line. But then I remembered that I LOVE Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones and it turns out that this book definitely IS comparable, so that was great.

The romance was there, shocking, but it wasn't shoe horned. It was camp, and contained all the cliches, but at least it wasn't poorly written- as in, the characters actually talk to each other and slowly develop a relationship rather than the old fave 'and they talked through the night and fell in love' summary. Characters were relatable, had believable motivations, were mostly likable except for the fact that they kept describing each other as having 'a dry/quick/sharp as a knife wit' which was a bit irritating.

The writing is nothing spectacular, but head and shoulders above many others of the genre- this genre by the way absolutely belongs to the YA sect, something I didn't realise until half way through chapter one, this is all about teenagers out of their depth. It's set in space and yet all the technology they mention is understandable, logical, easy to digest- again, quite rare for this type of book.

All in all, this is a fun race-to-the-treasure story, very easy to read and enjoyable while not exactly mentally taxing- great poolside pick. Will definitely be picking up the sequel.
