I listened to this as an audiobook, with Alex McKenna for the female lead of Amelia/Mia and Steve West for the male lead of Jules. I enjoyed Alex McKenna, but I thought Steve West was a bit mature for Jules. I will say that, while popular, I am neutral at best to Steve West. His narration would often lull me into non-focus.
I did enjoy the story though, which had a combination of action and quieter moments. I also enjoyed the building relationship between Mia and Jules. Not just the romantic aspect (which I will always be a sucker for) but just the relationship in general with all its hills and valleys. I will be continuing.

I was SO excited when I got my digital ARC of this book! I was a huge fan of Kaufman and Spooner’s This Shattered World series so I was very excited to start reading this one! I really enjoyed how this book was more than just a typical adventure type book. At first glance the two characters seem like they are the stereotypical polar opposites that are forced together to make it through the tomb alive. But as the story progresses you see that while Jules is well educated and grew up learning about this culture, Mia is a quick study keeping pace with the riddles being solved and assists with her different perspective on things. They are a great team and they keep you entertained through the whole book. I must admit, there were a few times when reading that I was wondering what else could possibly happen in this book. While there were a few moments when it felt like the story could have ended, once completing the book it is the perfect setup for the rest of the series. The last few paragraphs will drive you crazy while you wait for the next book to be released! A fast paced, Indiana Jones in space!
Cannot wait to read the sequel!

I definitely agree with the descriptions I’ve heard that Unearthed is like Indiana Jones in space. The book is name packed with puzzles
and high stakes archaeology on foreign landscapes. I really appreciated that the puzzles often unfolded in unexpected ways, I was on my toes for the whole book.
I think our main characters Jules and Amelia were pretty well characterized for such a plot driven book; even if I couldn’t necessarily predict their reactions to things I could absolutely understand them based on things we had already learned
So why four stars instead of 5? I think the romance does sort of unfold a little quickly and without very much tension or will they/won’t they which would have been a nice dimension to the story. Additionally there were a couple of times that I felt like I was just being told the world building and not shown, but it wasn’t enough to be off putting and I can appreciate that we got to get going with the fun stuff more quickly
I’m overall really pleased with this and excited for the next installment!
Solid 3 Stars, a bit disappointed because it has a five star premise. I didn't feel it has enough action and the mystery was weak. And the romance was only okay. It was readable, but I'm not honestly interested in continuing the series.
It was hailed as Indiana Jones meets Lara Croft on foreign planet. Sold!
Leaving on a cliffhanger, I need to get my hands on the sequel.

I thought I'd better read this now I've finished writing my own treasure hunting book! This is full of logic puzzles and alien intrigue, and it has a GREAT ending.

Unearthed was a massive disappointment and probably a sign that, though I love Kaufman and Spooner separately, perhaps their teamwork doesn't click for me.
Unearthed was, for me, overly repetitive, lacking in character development, and one of those books where I was continually figuring things out before the characters.
The audio narration was great, but that wasn't enough to make this book work for me. Perhaps it would be more fun to readers more into adventure, series of puzzles, and newer to sci fi.

4.5 stars
Enjoyed it throughly. Loved the archeology in space. Loved the adventure. Definitely Indiana Jones in space. Best kind of Sunday morning reading.
An aside, yes there's an attraction between Jules and Mia but it's just an attraction at this point. I'm sure, in later books, it'll be delved into a bit more. The romance didn't bother me as much as it did others.
be warned, this ends on a very interesting cliff hanger

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Amie Kaufman can do no wrong. I’ve loved all her series, and this is no exception. It’s space drama meets Indiana Jones with snarky teen dialog and a puzzle that keeps you guessing until the very end.
