I made the decision not to finish reading unearthed because I just couldn’t enjoy it and I was struggling every step of the way to connect with the characters. Reading unearthed felt like a shore to me and I was repeatedly distracted by thinking about the other book I was currently reading.
But if you are a fan of either Lara Croft or Indiana Jones movies, then you’re going to enjoy this one immensely, I’m telling you.

Man, I was really excited for this book when I heard about it. And it was good. But not as amazing as I was hoping.

*RTC*

I will say the end fucked me right up.
I really loved the fast pacing of this book. I loved our main characters, and I was very invested in turning the page all the way throughout the book. I think the ending was a little to fast to totally hit me (I had to read it twice) but that could be because I’m sleepy. But I am very very excited for book two. I will be reading that book as soon as it comes out.
This gets s four star rating from me mostly because I didn’t feel like the end had any sort of resolution. And not in the normal cliff hanger way. We reached a resolution of some of the plot lines then there was still like 90ish pages of book. So it started the build again then REVEAL then END. So if felt a little odd maybe? I’m probably reread and see if I agree with myself later. Hahaha. But I Super love Amie and Meagan.

i really liked mia and jules, and the first one-third of the book was a strong start, but the story kinda got bogged down, which is surprising because i think this could have been a great, fun, exciting read but it fell short for me :/ and although i did like both main characters and their relationship, i also felt their POVs were too similar in style (like if it weren't for the pronouns, you probably couldn't tell their chapters apart), and the writing style wasn't anything special either...this book was very disappointing

What the bleeeeeep! I need book two now. How? What?

Characters = endearing, loveable, strong, intelligent, yes!
Romance = yes! So cute. Feels very much like Illuminae in this regard.
Plot = so fast moving. So interesting. So hard to put down. Yes!
Puzzles = great balance of types, fun, brings the characters together, brings many questions along with it, like the tv show Lost. Yes!

That ending tho... I will definitely read the last book but not now

Actual Rating: 3.5 Stars

I received a copy of this novel while on its book tour, so it's attached to great memories and even signed by Amie Kaufman herself. That being said, the story itself wasn't all that innovative.

Unearthed is literally advertised as 'Indiana Jones in Space,' except the characters are still on a planet...so technically... it is just like Indiana Jones, with some added alien components. Although the novel was easy to read and entertaining for the most part - I couldn't help but feel that is was lacking.

I think I rated the book as high as I did because I followed along with the audio narrated by Steve West and Alex McKenna and they're fantastic; Steve West in particular automatically makes me want to rate a book higher than it's worth tbh.

That's not to say this is an awful book, because it's not. I actually quite enjoyed the book until about 50% in and then I thought there was a lull until the last 30 pages or so. The climax was well-written and intriguing to the point that it finalized my decision to pick up the sequel whenever it becomes a thing.

The problem stems from the fact that Unearthed didn't bring anything new to the table. The characters, temple puzzles, and story conflict all felt like I'd read or watched them before (and in a better manner tbh). So whilst this book was entertaining to read, it's at risk of being forgotten for it's heavy similarity to other novels and tv shows.

I also found myself disappointed with the quality of the temple puzzles. They were just solved too easily and in the oddest ways (i.e. the one with the cellphone - I mean, c'mon, really?). Anyways, I felt this was a bit of a rip off considering the riddles and traps were supposed to be the highlight of this novel. The actual result left me unsatisfied. Meh.

Before I go onto my next point, let me just state that I do ship Jules and Mia. I think their characters work well with each other and are diverse enough to keep readers invested in the progression of their relationship. That being said, I think the tension at the beginning of the novel was cliche and a smidge unrealistic to their characters. Idk, I just found myself rolling my eyes a lot at their antics and juvenile thoughts. They were both just, oh so distracted by each other's hotness for a chunk of the novel and I'm here like:

I'd recommend picking up this novel if you are in need of a quick and easy read to get you out of a slump.

i’ve just got one question and it is what the actual fuck
