Really this is just a fun YA SciFi book. I love the idea of Indian Jones meets Lora Croft in space and totally need more books like this. There was a lot of info dumping and telling vs showing early on but I was interested enough to keep going. I wish there was a bit more of the puzzles and tension but overall I was entertained! Did I mention it was fun? And that end...
3.5/5 It's an enjoyable story. I really liked the Undying and all the archeological parts of the story. I also like both of the main characters which is a plus. I'm definitely interested to see what happens next.
I was thinking Indiana Jones when I read the blurb for this book. And initially, I was really enjoying this book. And then, I hit the 40% point, and started to get a little bored by the story and by the romance between the main characters. By 50%, I started skimming, and kept gritting my teeth every time I read the word "glyph". So, while I think the concept sounded good, I think the story just dragged on too long, and could have really used some tightening up.

This was a fun teen space adventure. With a little Indiana Jones action thrown in, including the cliffhanger ending.
Summary: Scholar Jules Addison and scavenger Amelia Radcliffe join forces to unravel secrets of a long-extinct civilization, only to discover something that could spell the end of the human race.

Mia is on a mission to save her sister. To do that she has to bring back valuable tech from Gaia, a new world that has opened up because of a message from an alien race. Mia runs into Jules on Gaia and they decide to team up after he promises her tech no one knows about. Jules is the son of the man that decoded the message from the Undying and the man who ruined his career trying to convince people the message was dangerous. Jules and Mia are off to a temple no one really knows about but they are not alone. They come under the power of a group of mercenaries who also want the tech. Together they have to decode the clues leading through the temple and try to stay alive.
I enjoyed this book but didn't love it. I am intrigued by the cliff-hanger ending and eager to see where book 2 goes even though I did figure out the twist way before Mia and Jules did. The end of the book was very seat of your pants exciting, but the beginning could definitely have used some editing. I am not sure if it was because there were two authors or what but there was a lot of unnecessary repetition that really brought the story down. I was also a bit put off by the romance and didn't find it really that believable. There were a bit too many moon-eyed scenes for my liking especially since they were basically trying to survive the entire story. That being said I will definitely be reading the next book.

If you like adventure stories about two characters working together to survive then you will definitely enjoy this. For me it was definitely enjoyable but just lacked that element to make it a fabulous and gripping story. The book does end on a sort of cliffhanger (with the next book not coming out till next year I believe) so be prepared for that however if you find the plot intriguing then definitely give it a go because I doubt you'll be disappointed.
