Overall, i enjoyed this book a lot. Not a five star for me because there were moments where I felt like it was hammering me over the head with the themes, "telling" things that could have been implied or "shown" repeatedly every few chapters. Also, Nellie's character growth through the first half was handled well, but the crux of her transformation after reuniting with Jean felt forced.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the audiobook.
Beautifully narrated, this book was very thought provoking on how misogyny morphs over time.

This book was very hard for me to get into and I almost DNFd it several times
I do think the pace and story picked up more around the halfway mark, and I think this story has an interesting plot and concept.
Overall I would recommend this but if you have read Outlander I'd say this does not necessarily fill those shoes.
Still an enjoyable 3 star read for me.
Thank you Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review

I really liked the overall premise of the book (Scottish folklore paralleling systems of patriarchy), but I feel like it could have been soooo much more subtle and intricate! There was way too much telling and not enough showing. Maybe if we had first person POV and got to know Nellie's character better? I left feeling like I didn't really intimately know any of the characters and what drove them.
