dnf at 54%. It’s just too disjointed. It moves too fast and nothing feels truly unpacked. There’s a lot of telling, but not a lot of showing.

I think given time and the inclination to really flesh out some ideas, it could have been really great.

An excellent addition to the canon of feminist literature that includes queerness, Thompson tackles the historical misogyny of witch hunts in an entirely new way. She creates a very real feeling world of historical fiction touched by magic that is rooted in the lands, speaking to the understanding many indigenous and tribal cultures had around the way their homelands were directly tied to their spirituality. A tale of stewardship of the land, each other, and speaking up for the marginalized. This book had sweet romantic cozy lesbians nestled into a magical battle for the soul of a city. Worth the read.
