I found the first third confusing but enjoyed Leonard and Lucy’s stories very much. I’m going to read online about how it all ties together.

Loved it. Maybe best one yet, other than the weird interstitial from the satchel’s POV. These are both cozy (gothic, full of family and loss and art and hardship but also a formula that I love so I know what I am getting into) and lovely, with grand sweep and good prose. This has everything I wanted, twists I called (Pale Joe) and twists I did not (Lucy’s role) and I only wish it had been even longer so it lasted more than two days (despite trying to slow down).

Returned this title (audible sale). Sad, I was excited to have "Anna" from Dowtown Abbey read to me!

I have liked other books by this author, but just couldn't get into this one. There was too much going on without a center point of interest. I just couldn't relate to any of the characters enough to keep going with this book. Did not finish.

Fun, fast read. Mystery story that jumps between 1860s and present day. I found the jumping back and forth a bit jarring, but the story was good.

While Morton’s prose and subjects are as gorgeous as ever, I struggled with this book. There were too many characters, the flips back and forth through time seemed disjointed and confusing, and the pace was too slow to keep me engaged. Too many points of view. When Juliet’s voice began, it floored me. I came to a full stop. Now who the heck is she? It took awhile to place her in the timeline. This could of been edited down to a sublime novel.

Why I liked/considered reading this book:
-
Spoiler it has a ghost

- it has flowers on the cover
- it was recommended to me by a family member
- it was somehow a detective-kind-of-thing going on

What I didn't like about it:
-
Spoiler amnesia, a "great" way to end a book when you don't know how

- I didn't feel like it needed almost 500 pages to be relevant
- too many characters that appeared from nowhere and somehow made sense to the story, but they REALLY weren't necessary (Elodie and her mother, Jack)
- it got on my nerves, because I really wanted to know what happened after all with Lily and that useless jewelry and when we had a little tiny clue: "heeey, remember me? I'm here to fill some more pages so I can drive you insane!!"

For me, it was a 2.whatever stars reading, I'm glad to say I will not read it again, but gladly have it in my bookshelf, because the cover is beautiful.
