3.7 AVERAGE

Kate Morton is one of my favorite authors. I love the way she weaves the past and the present to create a journey that keeps her reader on the edge of his/her seat. The Clockmaker's Daughter, however, left me not quite satisfied.

The start of the novel is suspenseful and leaves the reader wanting more; however, when new characters are introduced 2/3 of the way through, the novel is less enjoyable and more confusing. Kate Morton usually does a wonderful job tying the pieces together; however, with so many different storylines, this particular novel left many questions left unanswered.

Morton's style of writing is still second-to-none, and I look forward to reading her material in the future. This particular novel is just one of my least favorites.

Love the atmosphere, love the mc’s job, intrigued with the mystery but for some reason it put me into a slump… might pick it up again 😬

Due to the constantly switching times periods /timelines, I think the audiobook could be very confusing to follow.

4.25/5 stars

This was such a nice surprise. I didn't have high expectations from this book when I started reading it, but the first chapter truly grabbed my attention. Is a whodunit story with multiple points of view, a writing style (from our main character) that reminded me of the narrator of The Book Thief, romance, death and lies that are mixed in with the truth.

I didn't enjoy how the story unfolded, it felt like the characters didn't get the closure that I've been hoping for. I also got lost in the POVs and trying to make all the connections, but I still enjoyed annotating about each thought and answer I had as the story developed.

Nonetheless, I recommend this book to any reader seeking a more historical fiction murder mystery.

It was a nicely written book. Characters especially Elodie and Lily Millington were so nicely created. One thing I didn't like was the huge changes between years. Elodie was such a relatable charecter.
