I really liked the first half of this book, but then I lost interest in reading it and finally marked it as "read" so I could free up some fresh book energy. It's a good one though :)

Pretty hard to believe that these were the best short stories in 2018.

Some of the stories in here were alright, but altogether I didn't enjoy them quite so much as other collections. I found myself skimming over a lot of them. However, "Boys Go to Jupiter" was outstanding.

This book taught me so much about narrative structures and character complexity and the many ways you can write a sentence. It’s interesting to see Roxane Gay’s editorial interests play out through these different stories (some felt darker, others political; some were both). I took away so many favorite stories from this collection that I’m excited to return to.
