I haven’t read many Victorian stories since I had to read Dickens in grade school, so I appreciated the chance to give this collection a try. It ended up not being for me.
There’s nothing wrong with the stories or the collection as a whole; I am simply not the right reader for them. The Victorian authors read like they’re intentionally “fluffing up” their word count. Not in any meaningful way either - they’re just wordy for the sake of being wordy. At least, that’s how I felt while reading them.
I think someone with a particular love for this time period’s writing or classics that are wordy will love this collection.
Thanks so much to Simmons for the chance to read an e-copy for free in exchange for an honest review!
