I don't even look at the blurb anymore when it comes to Sara Fields. I see her name and I know I'm going to absolutely love it. This one totally lived up to the expectations. It had the feel of an Area 51 type sci-fi, and I loved that it took place on Earth instead of in space. That's not something I see very often in sci-fi. The story line was unique and interesting. I would have probably loved it just as much without all the sexiness, but luckily for me (and you), Sara knows how to mix dangerous suspense and dangerous sexiness. It kept me from being able to walk away. This is a quick read that shouldn't be missed.

Feral by Sara Fields is a Standalone Dark Sci-Fi Romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Bo Alexander. This is the first book of Sara’s that I have read and look forward to reading more from her in the future. Bo did a great job narrating. The only down fall was that he did not change tone for each character. I liked that the book switched between Axel and Cosima points of view so you could really get into both characters head.  I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Dark Romance and a bit of Sci-Fi.

Made me uncomfortable
I don't know if this was meant to be consensual non consent (CNC) which I've never read before so I'm not sure but this rubbed me the wrong way. It wasn't the smut or the specific kinks but any time the MC said
"whether I wanted him to or not".
I mean an actual conversation wouldn't have gone a miss. Even when we're in her head and she's enjoying it, she didn't want it (the first time at least). I don't think the book was bad but it wasn't for me.

I don’t consider this a dark romance. I liked the world-building and the Sci-fi setting. I would’ve liked more background on Axel. How was he so civilized while his brother was so feral?

This jumped right into the sexytimes, which became the focus of the story. It was a bit over my threshold for sexytimes, so I skimmed some of them. I was more interested in the plot. It could’ve been great, but the author glossed over a lot of important details and then had the h do a TSTL thing.

It was a quick read, and it was entertaining. The author has talent and a good imagination.

So Sara Fields new Author for me: but one I will be watching for sure: this had such an interesting concept and for me, It was this overall vein that initially drew me towards Feral as a story.
The hot and heavy antics between Axel and Cosima were just the icing.
So as I was saying it was the Sci-Fi Alien aspect of this rather than the romance that captured my attention it was just a shame that this wasn't expanded on and explored in more depth.
I never really felt we got in tune with Axel's inner monologue and his thoughts on a life of almost ongoing servitude for the military.
I mean he was just as much as a captive as his crazy ass brother but I didn't get a sense of how this had affected his psyche.
I also couldn't get a handle on Cosima and her total lack of flight plans once she was intercepted by Axel she acclimatised very quickly: I would still be totally screeching like a loony in fright and disbelief if I had witnessed an altercation between two eight foot tall red monsters and one threw me over his shoulder and made off with me .
He does return to more normal proportions and colour when calmer but still.
Also whats with her wandering the complex and area alone: stay the hell put girly!!!
I don't get why she would even do that considering past events and knowing That Axel's bro is a bit cray cray and still on the loose.
This at its heart is an easy read that is basically extremely instalove in nature and also includes some panty dropping steamy antics: and boy are they hot and heavy and just for info there are extra appendages involved here.

It's well written: does what it says on the tin and can be read fairly quickly.
I did enjoy myself so will definitely be trying something else by this author but would have loved this to have been a tad lengthier and maybe a touch more involved than it was.
For clarification, this, in my opinion, isn't that dark at all: I suppose initially there's what you could class as slight dub-con: but its like really mild and Cosima is not really saying no either it's more akin to weak reluctance on her part which she very swiftly abandons.
So If you're looking for some sizzle and spice then this one certainly delivers that in spades.
Axel is one dominant Alpha Alien who goes after what he wants and that in this instance is Cosima.
This for me was a fun read.
I borrowed this with my KU subscription.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
