An insightful and well-researched look into the life and work of an amazing judicial activist who is not talked about enough. A bit dense at times but interesting overall. I cannot believe that I hadn’t heard of Constance Baker Motley until picking up this book, and I’m so glad that I did. This book is ideal for those that enjoy biographies and for those that want to learn about an important voice in the civil rights movement.

What an interesting read! This woman was extraordinary, and worth getting to know. I'm surprised by her lack of presence in the Civil Rights conversations. Read this book and celebrate this woman.

4 instead of 3 because there really aren't many other resources to learn about Motley's life. She's an important person, who, like many other Black people active in key points of history, has not been taught well or at all in education. The book is an important read for people who want to know more about history! That said, it's a very... factual biography. It's not a memoir, or an analysis, or much more than a report on her life. Again, this is important - but even with some moments of speculation or added emotion, it kind of felt more like reading a high school book report than really learning Motley and her life and experiences. But, that's exactly what this book was meant to be - telling Motley's story and placing her importance in history. Which it does super well!

I felt like the author kept jumping back and forth. It kind of confused me. Other than that I really enjoyed the book.
