If ever there was a book that could make you cry, this is it. I literally had tears streaming down my face for the last 100 pages. Yes, it was sad, but it was also quite beautiful. The title of the book, Dancing on Broken Glass is really quite a brilliant description of Hancock's story. Life is full of hardship, the broken glass, but you have to walk across it. Those who are lucky and determined and wise will find a way to dance on it.
One of the most interesting aspects of this book was the harsh insights into the life of a person suffering from severe bi-polar disorder. I can't judge how realistic Hancock's portrayal is, but it felt authentic, and showed so well that Mickey, though suffering from a mental illness, was an amazing, smart, attractive (dare I say hot?), and loving guy who was able to have a good life.
This book is also a debut from a Utah author, which I didn't realize until halfway through the story. Though she doesn't bring in Mormon theology at all in the book, her underlying faith is clear in the way she writes about death and adversity.
Definitely recommended. I can't quite decide between 4 and 4.5 stars.

ich habe nie so viel geweint wie bei diesem Buch - aber ich liebe es. Ich liebe die Figuren, ihre Geschichte, ihre Einzigartigkeit
This book was amazing and is filled with so many different emotions. The author captivates the reader from page 1 and really puts the reader in a position where you feel like you know the characters in real life. Written excellently and beautifully. This story is bound to stay with the reader for a lifetime. The characters face undeniable pain but also undeniable love. Such a great read! Definitely adding it to my favourites.
This book was very moving. It presents the readers with some very difficult life choices. At first, I was not approving of the decision, but over time I realized it was the best option. Because we should not be afraid. And there are only two things guaranteed, life and death.

It got a little slow at times but I was invested in the characters and their lives.
Reading this book was like watching a Lifetime movie which I don't do- ever. It was melodramatic and extremely predictable. The plot was telegraphed from the first few chapters and it played out exactly as I thought it would. I don't swear off chick-lit as a whole but this is not the type of chick-lit I enjoy. This one was treacly, overwrought and repetitive. This book could have easily been 60 pages shorter and had the same result. Disappointing.
The story deals with mental health in a meaningful way, but the bipolar husband was witten as though he was mentally challenged and the fact that a suicidal, psychiatric patient can roam the hospital is beyond far fetched. Having a messenger of death also made the book unplausable, and the ending was predictable. This could have been such a great book but fell short.

Predictable plot. Mediocre writing. Repetitive narrative.
This book is brilliant and awful and heartbreaking and lovely. Because of my day job, I tend not to read books about mental illness or substance use disorders; doing so makes me feel as though I’m putting in overtime.
However, Ka Hancock’s debut novel was an exquisitely written description of bipolar disorder. It’s ugly and devastating, but Hancock didn’t shy away. And, more importantly, she didn’t stigmatize.
This isn’t chick-lit, and it’s not an easy read. It’s a painful story of love and loss, but I honestly feel as though I’m a better person for having read it.
