Such a brilliant nonfiction read.
A book about a young woman who these days I think would be described as "before her time". Also a young woman with strong opinions, but one who did not have control of her life. The book made me wonder what would have happened if she had remained queen, or more importantly, been allowed to live.
This title definitely will help me to think of her beyond the 'Nine Days Queen'.

I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley, and although Jane Grey is a terribly depressing subject, this was a fantastic read. Nicola Tallis does an amazing job of breaking down the myths surrounding Lady Jane and clears up some of the foggy details of her life. Deeply researched and carefully constructed, the story is easy to follow, providing a lot of detail about Jane's family and her contemporaries which helps readers understand the time in which she lived--as well as what contributed to her downfall. Tallis follows the popular argument that seventeen-year-old Jane was a pawn in the hands of ambitious men, much like Anne Boleyn before her. Although her reign was brief (so, too, her life), there is an abundance of material in this book about Jane's early years, and what she wrote or said during her time in the Tower. I would highly recommend this for any Tudor fan!
This nonfiction book covers the life and death of Lady Jane Grey, the Nine Day Queen who was never crowned and never wanted it in the first place. Other people schemed to get her on the throne after the death of Edward VI and she was a pawned used by her father and the Duke of Northumberland to be the puppet for them to rule England. The book is copiously footnoted throughout to support facts given in the book but even with the notes the care of the subject comes through the author’s writings.
The book is an interesting read of the time frame and how some people make poor decision after poor decision to the ruin of their families. In the end the only person out of Jane’s family that does well for themselves is her mother.
