Vaughan's first volume of Saga begins the story with narrator Hazel's birth. This is fitting seeing as Saga is her story of her life. Saga starts with a bang. The pressure of possible death is heavy on the main trio from the first few pages of the story. The ongoing war between Landfall and Wreath, the home planets of Hazel's parents is detailed and shown to be a neverending war of attrition. The Will and Prince Robot, two more main characters in the story, are also introduced and developed. Like Game of Thrones, Saga follows the stories of multiple characters in interweaving plot lines. This storytelling method allows the reader to see the story from multiple areas and viewpoints, which adds depth to the story and helps to fully develop the characters in ways that make all of them interesting and sympathetic. This book will pull you into the story and make you want to read all nine volumes. I do not recommend these books for children or young adults as there is a large amount of sexual content, violence, and gore. Despite these things, it is still a story that rivals greats like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings in scale, theme, and quality.
Based on this and Y: The Last Man, I will read everything that Vaughan writes.
This is very good. I am unexpectedly reading it in French, because that is what the library sent me when I requested a copy. The language isn't too difficult though, so I think I'm following it pretty well. It's made me laugh out loud in a few places. The art is really pretty, and the story is really well done.

Doing a re-read to finally get to Vol10 and it's still just as delightful as the first time.
A couple people have recommended this series. I finally got around to reading volume one and the bad thing about this book is WHY THE HECK DIDN'T I BUY THE WHOLE SERIES BECAUSE I LOVE IT.
