Wild. Unlike anything I’ve read before. Definitely going to continue this series!

Still one of my favorites...so good!

I really enjoyed reading this! I don’t read much in the graphic novel sector, having previously read a couple volumes of [b: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina|43261389|Season of the Witch (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, #1)|Sarah Rees Brennan|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1547594908l/43261389._SX50_.jpg|67139158], [b: Ms Marvel|20898019|Ms. Marvel, Vol. 1 No Normal|G. Willow Wilson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1413031883l/20898019._SY75_.jpg|41250341], and up to volume 8 of [b: Death Note|13615|Death Note, Vol. 1 Boredom (Death Note, #1)|Tsugumi Ohba|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1419952134l/13615._SY75_.jpg|1782155] (it got boring after a certain part of it and I couldn’t be bothered to go on!)

Saga is decidedly different. It’s not about superheroes, witches, or a kid who has a God complex. It is instead rather Romeo and Juliet in nature with our two main characters being a married couple and from two warring territories. The plot is fast paced, the dialogue snappy and believable, the pictures are so good to look at and well drawn. Just had a little bit of a blast reading it all :) I just wish it had been longer, managed to get through it within an hour and had grown attached to the characters. 4 stars for now.

I had a feeling I'd like this book because I'm a fan of [a:Brian K. Vaughan|24514|Brian K. Vaughan|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1204664235p2/24514.jpg], but I had no idea of the storyline when I picked up [b:Saga Vol. 1|15704307|Saga, Vol. 1|Brian K. Vaughan|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1351259514s/15704307.jpg|19113524]. The story of lovers from opposite sides of an endless war is one retold throughout many stories, but it has never been told quite like this.

[b:Saga Vol. 1|15704307|Saga, Vol. 1|Brian K. Vaughan|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1351259514s/15704307.jpg|19113524] tells the story of Marko and Alana, former soldier enemies on the run with their newborn baby girl. Pursued by both sides the two search for a way off-planet and to a new life. With some outside help and a lot of wit they make their way over the surface.

What makes this graphic novel truly special is that it is narrated by the infant! All three family members have strong personalities, un-yielding strength, and a whole lot of humor. [a:Fiona Staples]'s beautiful art lends another dimension to the story by, not only portraying the main characters well, but also lending credence to humanoid robots, creatures of all kinds, and a world at once forbidding and luxurious.

I will be waiting anxiously for [b:Saga Vol. 2|2153736|Excel Saga, Vol. 2 (Excel Saga, #2)|Rikdo Koshi|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1349087944s/2153736.jpg|2159238] to find out what else this makeshift family get themselves into.

2.5/5

I’m a little disappointed because this personally didn’t live up to all over the overwhelming hype that I have seen for it and I really wanted to fall in love with this graphic novel. I appreciated the artistic style of this, the colours were vivid and wonderful and a lot of the visuals were amazing. However that being said, I guess I’m just not one to fall in love with the kind of explicit graphic novels even though there were parts of this that I liked a lot? I really liked Isabel (I forgot how to spell her name I’m so sorry sweetie) tho. I reckon I will read the next volume eventually just because it doesn’t take long and I see potential for this to grow. Also this is entirely my fault but I just don’t really like Sci-fi most of the time so like when it’s the whole different species alien thing I don’t buy into it most of the time and I don’t appreciate it?

P.S- I noticed they offhandedly used offensive language such as the r-word and I don’t appreciate that. Also the six year old prostitute to give the old “the villain is a nice person” twist was not my cup of tea.

Edit: Damn I’m reading all the reviews from my favourite peeps who I often share taste with and ugh everyone adores this series so so much, I rlly wanted to like this damn

It's okay. But. The story isn't very strong right now and it feels like trope after trope after trope was thrown together into the script for this thing. None of the characters so far are very interesting to me and I just didn't care about what was going on. Might pick up the next one. Might not.

Officially love graphic novels!!! Need the next volume ASAP and need recs for other great series.

Review to come..

5 Stars - I recommend if you enjoy science fiction, or if you are looking for something different to read. I don't love sci-fi, and I had only ever read one graphic novel before this... but I really enjoyed this one!

This graphic novel follows Marko and Alana, two soldiers from different planets as they embark on a journey to start a family and a new life in a dangerous world. It begins with them having a baby, and follows their journey as they are hunted down by members of their own races, as well as other galactic forces who know that the news of their interracial baby threatens the way their world works. Think action-packed, sarcastic, sometimes explicit Romeo & Juliet.

As I said above, I don't read a lot of sci-fi. I don't generally gravitate toward sci-fi movies or anything else, but I had heard really good things about and really LOVED this graphic novel. The illustration, story, dialogue, etc. were very fresh and entertaining. I think it took me about 2 hours to read. If you're looking for something different, or to read a graphic novel, I highly recommend this one. However, please keep in mind this is rated M (mature), so if you're offended by explicit language and sexual content, this is not the graphic novel for you. I didn't find it overly gratuitous, but it's there. I passed it along to KC who also read it in a few hours (during March Madness basketball, lookout!), he loved it too. I can't wait to read the next volumes. Currently recommending this to everyone I know.

So good!!
