Ice Crown was a treat to read! It’s the tale of Talise, a girl from the Storm - the poorest of the poor in society. Somehow she is able to shape all four elements, even though it’s unheard of for people from the Storm to even be able to shape one. She will do great things I’m sure. The last book I read was epic grimdark fantasy and while it was wonderful, I needed a lighter read afterward, and this book hit the spot. It’s well written and the world is very detailed, especially for such a short read. If you like young adult fantasy and elemental magic, give this a read!

I wasn't sure what to expect going into this but I really had a good time reading this and I wanted to pick up the rest of these books straight away.

I really liked this quick read! I was able to read the 136 page book within a couple of hours. The world building and magic system was quick and easy to understand. I like the FMC quite a bit.
I do wish however it were longer. At the end I was left feeling like the climax didn’t hit and it left me feeling a bit deflated.

Not sure how I feel about how short this book was. I didn't really get to know Talise or Marmie. Talise isn't a fully fleshed out character for me. All I know is she can shape 4 elements at 7 and wants to win to get out of the Storm. She's resilient and creative. It's a really fast paced story. But maybe it's too fast 🤔 I do like the story. I really do, but I definitely want to see Talise and get to know her better. Aaden is also an interesting but not fleshed out character. I know next to nothing and yet he's intriguing. This whole competition thing has me thrown too. Not sure how this will all play out with how short these books are.
Okay, so this had potential. I wish it had more world building though. I wish it were also longer, having to begin a new story kind of throws me off and takes me out of it. I liked it but felt things were missing, that’s all.
Thank you Kay L. Moody and Booksprout for a complementary copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion.
I really enjoyed this sweet short first book in the series. I like the characters....even grumpy Aaden. I want to know what happened to Marmie. I want to find out how the competition ends. Soooo many questions!!! There was one thing in this first book that didn't make sense - don't they know the other students' last name at the academy? - but that didn't make me like the book less.
Great book!
