Do I respect any of these characters? No
Do I think this is a 5 star read? No
Did I enjoy it like it was a 5 star read? Absolutely
It's like a well made telenovela, you know in your head they're all idiots, but god is it enjoyable.
Although I have to say this, the multiple pov structure used is perfection. Most authors only do one or two character pov at most, and when they do add more pov you're left feeling like a bunch of unneeded stuff was added, but in this book it just makes sense.

I'd never read Anne Rice, and my curiosity finally overwhelmed me. It was an enjoyable enough Gothic romance. Less horror and a better set of characters than I had expected when I started the book.

If there were a polar opposite to the "Interview with a Vampire" series, this would be it. Ramses is an immortal who, unlike a vampire, lives off of light and goes into hibernation until one of the rulers of Egypt wakes him for counsel. He is driven by very human/primal emotions: love, jealousy, hunger (both for food and physical contact). This gets him into trouble, as you can imagine. I loved every moment of this book, from the suspense to the eras the story took place in. My only disappointment was that there isn't a sequel!
