"We're all of us haunted and haunting."

Oh, Chuck. Where to begin? This book was everything I expected out of an older Palahniuk novel. Characters you love to hate and hate to empathize with, a bizarre plot line with several twists and turns, and cultural commentary that just won't quit. I've had trouble getting into his newer stuff, but Lullaby reminded me he'll always be a favorite. Absurd, disgusting, and often wholly unpleasant, and yet, somehow, in some way, an oddly touching reminder that my life could always be worse.
