This starts out is a Sherlock Holmes style " who done it" but evolves into a philosophical reflection on life, evil, and forgiveness...a race to escape a bizarre philosophical prison, more like Sartre's "No Exit".

Can't recommend the audiobook, the reader was not up to the task - female voices were not good and male voices undifferentiated - a problem given the large cast of characters and complex plot frequently advanced via conversation. The premise is really interesting and I wanted to like it (there's a character I bet is an homage to Nero Wolfe!). But it was too convoluted, over-long, superficial, and ultimately very tedious with an incredible number of unmotivated plot twists and arbitrary rules governing character behavior until a character arbitrarily decides to break a rule. I stopped being able to care about what was happening. I might have liked it better reading instead of listening so I could skim/ skip the annoying parts.

I just finished this book like 2 minutes ago and honestly I have nothing to say other than you need to read this. It can be boring at times because there are so many details but every one of them is important. The ending was something to think on.

I am definitely coming away from this looking to bettering myself everyday (just without all the death) “a chance to be braver or kinder, to make what was wrong right. To be better then I am today.”

This was really hard to get through the first 3/4 of the book. I kept going because the premise was so so interesting and not like anything I’ve ever read before. The last 100 pages I couldn’t put it down.
