I don't understand why some people dislike this novel so much. I enjoyed it very much. It did seem a little rushed in the final section, but it was interesting getting a general idea of Elphaba's (Wicked Witch of the West) back story. There are a lot of questions to ask, and I think those details should be addressed in another series or pre-prequel perhaps? Maybe from another character's point of view? I do hope when I read "Son of a Witch", it explains more.

I loved the musical and the wizard oz movie and this followed closely. It just took some time to get going

It was not necessarily a bad story... but I felt it focused so much on the political context and the complicated conflicts it wanted to showcase--I suppose to show depth--that the story itself hung suspended and got caught in too much tangles. There were a lot of things left unexplained, and, truth be told, it was just to tedious to read through without impatience. Will probably not something I'll spend time on again in the future.

What a useless story. So much character build up, so many possibilities, all for nothing. Pages and pages of rambling nonsense mixed in with small bits of interest and intrigue. Entirely anticlimactic.
A true waste of time. Genuinely amazed that this was the basis for such a fantastic stage play. It seems the musical pulled out the best pieces of the story. Wish I had left it there and not ventured further into this world.
A letdown.
