This was maybe my favorite of the series so far. Interesting subterfuge and new characters with a pretty satisfying ending.

My excitement about the series is waning a bit, but I am still enjoying each book. Again I was pulled in by the great voice and character of Luke. The ending seemed rushed and a bit contrived, but otherwise, it still left me wanting to read the next one.

Not as good as the others... Still interesting, but pretty lackluster. There also were too many twists towards the end that it got annoying

We're back with Luke for this fourth book in the Shadow Children series, and I couldn't be happier. Even though these books are short, I feel such a connection with Luke and the series wouldn't be the same without Luke's presence. In this book, we find Luke almost running the show at Hendricks School in terms of helping grow the garden and make positive changes for kids at Hendricks. Luke is known as Lee Grant in his new life. Lee is the name of a child who died from a prominent family in society. When Lee's "brother" Smits, shows up at Hendricks, life starts to change for Lee/Luke in ways he never imagined. Luke eventually finds himself at the home of the Grants, being asked questions he never thought he'd have to answer.

I enjoyed this story, but I keep finding I want the story to continue on for a little while longer. This book comes in at a short 182 pages, and I feel like an additional bit of writing would make me feel like the story was more developed. This series falls victim to the classic middle grade downfall for me: the characters and story aren't as developed as I would like so the book ends up falling flat for me. I wanted more from this story, but I am curious what's going to happen next for Luke and Smits.

Luke is back and thank got for that. I’m a little confused by the choices at the end? But this one was twisty and adventurous!
