The Trip by Phoebe Morgan
AD PR PRODUCT: Thank you Harlequin (HQ) Australia and Phoebe Morgan for gifting me a copy of The Trip for an honest review!
The Trip is now available for purchase! [Amazon, Dymocks, QBD & BIGW]
Thoughts: This suspenseful crime psychological thriller had me on the edge of my seat! I enjoyed the short chapters and the changing points of view. The book became even more gripping around the 70% mark, and I was completely surprised by the ending. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a jaw-dropping thriller!
Synopsis: The perfect holiday. The perfect crime. Four friends on the holiday of a lifetime. Until a vicious murder shatters their paradise. Four friends who’d do anything for each other, until now. Only one of them committed a crime. But all four know how to keep a secret. And they’re all guilty of something…

The blurb for this book is incredibly misleading. The "vicious murder" that shatters the perfect holiday, mentioned in the very second line of the blurb, sounds like it is going to be the kicking off point of the story. Imagine my surprise when I'm on page 280 of a 320 page book and no murders have as yet taken place.
In fact, the advertised murder is essentially the climax of the whole book. Um, spoiler alert?? I don't understand how multiple publishing professionals must have read this blurb in connection with this book and said - oh yes, this is a perfect representation of the story. Like???
Most of the book is the two couples being on a holiday in Thailand that is less pleasant than they'd hoped.
And it's definitely easy reading and I was honestly enjoying it, but it felt like it just petered out. Not a single thing was surprising about the ending. I spent a lot of the book thinking "you'd solve this problem if you just did X" and then they do X, the end. Okay??
A solid ending would have made this a solid read for me. As it stands, it all just feels like a bunch of nothing. A travelogue of someone's disappointing trip ruined by interpersonal drama.

This is a perfect holiday read. Four friends go to Thailand on holiday. Sun, sand and suspense! Perfect book for lazing round the pool with a cocktail.
This book centres around 2 couples, one rich the other not so. They all have secrets, some more deadly than others. Follow the four friends as their secrets threaten their relationships.

I'm giving this book a 3.5 ★’s.
This book follows two couples, Saskia & Theo and Lucas & Holly who have decided to take a vacation together in Thailand. Which sounds like an interesting time to begin with until a vicious murder takes places and destroys their paradise. These couples have been friends for awhile so watching them all interact was nice to see and watch them care for each other, but how far will they go to protect each other.
One of them has had a bad past that comes to haunt them on this trip and it takes some twists and turns along the way. I felt like the lead up was good but nothing way to crazy which was nice. The twists involved were placed nicely and flowed with the book and had me thinking...damn.
They're all guilty of something at the end but not all are clean. I loved the visuals of this island that's involved and just a nice trip in Thailand sounded cool. So many interesting things happened in this book that involved current events but also the past which I felt added to the story.
I didn't feel connected to anyone in this book but I did feel entertained and enjoyed the different point of views we got. Love when books do this but not having way to many points made it easier to get through. This was a fast paced thriller for me that made me keep wanting to know what happens. I felt like this had a good conclusion and a good story just felt a slight slower build up but still enjoyed.
(Thank you to William Morrow, NetGalley, and Phoebe Morgan for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. This book will be released on October 8, 2024.)

A gripping, thrilling read. It’s about trust, secrets betrayals and death (in paradise). Two couples head out on a glorious holiday to Thailand but whilst there things take on a more sinister aspect and with not only secrets lying between them there are also deadly secrets between one couple. I found myself gripped and turning the pages to find out what happens…I can’t say more than this as it would spoil the twist so all I will say is get a hold of this book asap!!!
